(Akifumi Ishikawa/Stars and Stripes) TOKYO — One of this city’s most popular tourist districts is saying, “Goodbye Bad Halloween,” a call for visitors to refrain from public drinking, littering and tying up the famous crosswalk for costumed photoshoots. The slogan is posted across Shibuya ward as it braces for thousands of Halloween visitors expecting to party over the weekend. Shibuya Mayor Ken Hasebe comes up with a slogan each year to remind them that nuisance behavior is not tolerated in his jurisdiction.
“Various disruptive behaviors, such as drinking or smoking on the street, littering, creating noise, or staging costume-related photoshoots that obstruct traffic, are not what Halloween is truly meant to be about,” he said in video of a September news conference posted by Abema, an internet TV station. Stay home instead, and celebrate with your neighbors, Hasebe added. “I hope that people will enjoy Halloween by participating in organized events within their local communities or at specific venues, while keeping good manners,” he said.
