Visit follows Trump rally in Perry for Georgia GOP ticket | Ossoff-Collins race seen as key to Senate balance of power. ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The national Democratic Party’s most popular figure is in metro Atlanta on Wednesday to rally supporters ahead of next week’s nationally watched midterms. Former President Barack Obama is campaigning for U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms, who is hoping to become the nation’s first Black female governor. The rally is being held at Morrow’s Arena at Southlake. Ossoff’s seat is seen as crucial by national Democrats to maintaining a narrow margin with Republicans in the U.S. Senate. He is being challenged by U.S.

Rep. Mike Collins, who has closely aligned himself with President Donald Trump. Obama’s visit comes the week after Trump held a rally in Perry, Georgia, where he played up the candidacies of Collins and other GOP candidates. Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson are campaigning to succeed outgoing Gov. Brian Kemp in a bid to become Georgia’s 84th governor. Obama’s visit will be followed by former Vice President Kamala Harris, who is set to host a community town hall with NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson. Harris is also headlining a Fulton County Democrats’ fundraising event on Friday. Early voting ends Friday in Georgia with election day
