Marsha's South Street, Philadelphia's first queer women's sports bar, is closing a little over a year after it opened. | KYW Newsradio Marsha's South Street, Philadelphia's first queer women's sports bar, is closing a little over a year after it opened. "It is with heavy hearts that we have decided to close Marsha's doors for good," the bar wrote on Instagram. It will be open through Sunday, Oct. 18, "for one last hurrah." The bar is named after the Black trans rights activist Marsha P. Johnson and was established last September as a safe space for women and LGBTQ people highlighting women's sports. But it has been the subject of controversy. The bar's managers have faced accusations of creating a hostile work environment, which a former bartender says led to her firing.

The bar denies that's why she was fired. Still, the allegations led Philly Black Pride and other groups to pull events from the bar this year. "We have loved serving this community, and still believe that more than ever this city needs more women/queer/BIPOC-owned businesses," Marsha's wrote on their Instagram post. "We sincerely hope that someone is able to step up and fill this void." Marsha's was the first women's sports-focused bar to open in Philadelphia, following the model of the successful women's sports bar The Sports Bra
