One man is dead and another is in stable condition after a shooting in Jacksonville’s Southwest Side, specifically in the Hillcrest area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man is dead and another is in stable condition after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville’s Southwest Side, specifically in the Hillcrest area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. JSO said District 4 patrol officers were notified about the shooting at about 4:40 p.m. through both a 911 call and a ShotSpotter alert. Officers found two men with significant injuries near Lake Shore Boulevard and Plymouth Street. The victims were taken to separate hospitals, where one later died. The other underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition, officials said.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument. JSO said all involved parties were detained and there was no ongoing threat to the public. “At first, they were over there arguing back and forth and everything and then when I came out here with my dogs, he’s walking back towards this way and I was hollering, ‘You okay?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m about to be,’” Jason Ables, a neighbor said.
