Rehmet defeats Wambsganss to represent Texas Senate District 9  Spectrum News

This race was a rematch of the special election runoff in January. TEXAS — Incumbent Democratic state Sen. Taylor Rehmet defeated Republican Leigh Wambsganss in the race to represent Texas Senate District 9, according to the Associated Press. This race was a rematch of the special election runoff earlier this year. The district includes most of Tarrant County and has been a historically conservative district. Rehmet flipped the seat with his victory in January. Republicans called Rehmet’s victory a “wake-up call” for their party as the district previously voted for President Donald Trump in 2024 by 17 points. Rehmet’s victory shows that Democrats are continuing to make gains in one of the largest swing counties in America.

The seat was previously held by former Republican state Sen. Kelly Hannock, who left to serve as interim comptroller. Hancock stepped down from that position after losing the primary to former state Sen. Don Huffines. Huffines is now the acting comptroller.
