San Diego beaches see effects of Tropical Storm Marie  NBC 7 San Diego

The NWS is tracking Hurricane Marie, which could bring showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms for San Diego on Labor Day weekend. Meteorologist Greg Bledsoe gives his latest weather forecast for tonight in San Diego and a look ahead. After a weekend of high surf and light, spotty showers, now-Tropical Storm Marie was expected to reach its peak Monday with high swells and possible coastal flooding. Marie is about 700 miles southwest of San Diego and weakening but a large swell from the system is keeping a high surf advisory in effect through Tuesday night, according to Meteorologist Brooke Martell.

The storm could also bring some scattered showers, as it did Sunday. Marie became a hurricane on Wednesday before being downgraded to a tropical storm. The entire county will feel its tropical effects in the form of high humidity and hot temperatures on Labor Day. High surf combined with high astronomical tides of about 6-7 feet will lead to tidal overflow and coastal flooding through Tuesday during evening high tides, especially for south and southwest-facing beaches as well as low-lying areas, the National Weather Service said.
