Officers reportedly encountered the driver walking away from the scene, holding a metal bar and trying to get vehicles to stop. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A commercial truck driver is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing his semi into several vehicles on the interstate in Nashville and attempting to flee the scene on Tuesday. According to an arrest affidavit, an officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department was called to mile marker 54 on Interstate 24 East on Tuesday night for reports of a tractor-trailer crash. She arrived at the scene and reported visible debris from the collision in the left two lanes of the interstate, according to the affidavit. After a conversation with another semi driver who said his truck was hit, the officer approached the suspect’s tractor-trailer parked on the left shoulder.
The driver reportedly was out of the cab and walking away from the scene and the officer. The report states that he was holding a “metal bar” and was trying to get passing vehicles to stop on the interstate, according to the affidavit. He hopped over the median wall when he saw the officer and heard her commands to stop, the affidavit states, so backup units responded, including Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers, and the man was taken into custody after briefly shutting down the interstate.
