Sub-Freezing Temperatures Expected For Parts Of Chicago Area Patch
While there might be freezing temps Friday night, the first snowflakes of the season haven't yet arrived. Sub-freezing temperatures may happen for parts of central and northern Illinois for the first time this season, according to the National Weather Service Chicago. The high for Friday is 50 degrees, and lows on Friday night could be as cold as 28 degrees. The "widespread freeze" is expected away from Lake Michigan and west of Interstate 57. The weekend will also be cooler with a high of 52 on Saturday, and 62 on Sunday, according to the current forecast. "Temperatures then warm back into the 60s early next week," the weather service said.
While we will get a brief cool-down for the weekend, it doesn't look like we will see the first snowflakes of the season. Chicago's "normal" first day for a trace of snow is Oct. 31, so we have passed that this year. The latest first date happened in 1999, when our first trace of snow didn't fall until Dec. 5, according to weather service data. Here is a more detailed look at the weather for this weekend for the Joliet area, per the weather service: FRIDAY: Increasing clouds, with a high near 48. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly
