EXCLUSIVE: An illegal immigrant who re-entered the U.S. five times said his drinking is the “mistake” that finally led to his arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement early Thursday…

EXCLUSIVE: An illegal immigrant who re-entered the U.S. five times said his drinking is the “mistake” that finally led to his arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement early Thursday morning.

Ernesto Alejandro Perez-Garcia, a Mexican national, was arrested by ICE in Redondo Beach, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. Perez-Garcia has a history of arrests dating to 2003 for alcohol-, controlled substance- and driving-related offenses, as well as making terroristic threats and illegally re-entering the U.S. ICE said he illegally entered the country five times and made four additional attempts to enter.

Fox News Digital witnessed ICE arrest Perez-Garcia on Thursday. When agents first encountered him on the Redondo Beach esplanade, he denied his identity. However, when confronted with a previous mugshot, Perez-Garcia acknowledged that he was the man they were seeking.

After ICE booked and processed him, Perez-Garcia told Fox News Digital that he lied to agents “to see if I could get away with it.” He said that after he was confronted with his mugshot, he realized, “I’m busted, you know, in other words, I’m f—ed.”

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT RELEASED UNDER BIDEN ACCUSED OF STABBING VIRGINIA MOTHER, DOUSING HER IN GASOLINE

Perez-Garcia said that despite national headlines about ICE operations, he did not expect to be arrested Thursday morning. He said he was on his usual morning walk when agents encountered him.

“Once I saw the officer … with the picture of me, there was no way I was going to run,” he said.

“At the end of the day,” he continued, “it’s the alcohol that got me back in this mess.” While he said a friend’s recent death “got me caught up [in alcoholism],” he said, “It shouldn’t have, so it’s my mistake, and I’ve got to be responsible for that.”

Perez-Garcia first entered the U.S. at an unknown date and location. The Torrance Police Department in California initially arrested him on April 3, 2003, for driving without a license. He was convicted and sentenced to 30 days. Over the next few years, he was also convicted of driving with a suspended license and possessing controlled substance paraphernalia.

According to ICE, the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, convicted Perez-Garcia on April 10, 2006, of threatening crime with intent to terrorize. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation. ICE removed him to Mexico for the first time the next month.

FATHER OF SLAIN MARINE SPEAKS OUT AFTER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WHO KILLED SON FACES THIRD DEPORTATION

However, he re-entered the U.S. at an unknown date and location. On June 27, 2006, he was arrested again for threatening crime with intent to terrorize.

Over the next two decades, Perez-Garcia was arrested for various offenses, including repeated attempts to cross the southern border in Tecate, California.

Since 2020, Perez-Garcia has been arrested five times for disorderly conduct, including four arrests by the Redondo Beach Police Department. He was arrested twice this year for disorderly conduct, on April 17 and May 8. ICE said the department declined to honor its detainer requests twice, in 2020 and again in 2026.

Perez-Garcia claimed that the Redondo Beach Police Department “let me know a couple years ago” that ICE was looking for him.

“Redondo PD had told me about it, you know, Redondo PD was cool with it. They let me go with it, you know what I mean, but they also told me I had a warrant for my arrest,” he said.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Redondo Beach Police Department for comment on Perez-Garcia’s assertion.

NEWSOM-APPOINTED JUDGE WHO FREED MIGRANT BEFORE FATAL STABBING SAID JUSTICE ‘SOMETIMES MEANS A DISMISSAL’

Los Angeles Field Office Director Tom Giles spoke with Fox News Digital shortly before ICE arrested Perez-Garcia. Giles emphasized that “when these detainers aren’t honored, what it does for us is it sends our officers out into the community, putting our officers at risk and other community members at risk to go out and try to apprehend this individual.”

“So, for sanctuary policies, what we ask these jurisdictions is to cooperate with us,” he said, adding, “It will make our communities safer.”

Perez-Garcia said he believes his arrest by ICE is “fair.”

SIGN UP TO GET THE POLITICS NEWSLETTER

“I was trying to lie about it because I actually don’t got nothing there in Mexico right now, you know what I mean? I grew up right here, and this is what I know,” he said. Perez-Garcia also said his children live in the U.S. and that he has heard stories about how “so hard” it is to return to the U.S.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, to tell you the truth,” he said. “I already knew it was going to catch up to me; I just didn’t know when.”

After an explosive series of congressional hearings on alleged woke “ideological capture” at the Smithsonian, a resurfaced video of a presentation by National Museum of American History Director Anthea Hartig…

After an explosive series of congressional hearings on alleged woke “ideological capture” at the Smithsonian, a resurfaced video of a presentation by National Museum of American History Director Anthea Hartig shows her calling “history as a practice” a “prime tool of social justice.”

In a series of July hearings on Capitol Hill, Hartig defended the Smithsonian’s record of objectivity and nonpartisanship. However, in a resurfaced presentation to University of California, Los Angeles students in February 2025, Hartig described “a number of ways in which your National Museum of American History is taking an equity-based, justice forward, community driven and necessarily humble approach to public history and to service.”

Later in her presentation, Hartig asserted that the “United States’ long and violent racial history continues to be present in our reckoning, if you will.”

She said that “redress in the form of reparation, of course, goes beyond acknowledgement of wrongdoing; it should leverage responsibility, it should think about the act of correction, as we pursue restorative justice and, for us [on the call], restorative justice through history.”

TRUMP V. SMITHSONIAN: A TIMELINE OF HOW THE WHITE HOUSE FIGHT OVER ‘WOKE’ HISTORY UNFOLDED

During her testimony on Capitol Hill last month, Hartig stated: “Our work is governed by the Smithsonian standards of scholarship, accuracy, independence and nonpartisanship.” She said, “the museum does not take sides in America’s political debates,” but instead, “We preserve and document the evidence of American life in all of its breadth, so that the public can encounter the past and draw their own conclusions.”

However, in her presentation to UCLA, she asserted that “history as a practice … is for me a prime tool of social justice.”

Hartig began her talk with a land acknowledgement and a slide showing a picture of an American flag defaced with words that appeared to read “Defund the Police.” Her caption said the photo was from a Black Lives Matter protest in Washington, D.C., in 2020. Another photo Hartig showed later in the presentation depicted a protester holding a sign that read, “America loving you is complicated.”

She remarked that the museum opened in 1964 as “this kind of Cold War, you know, ‘We’re going to be the best and most technologically advanced country in the nation and we’re going to show everyone how we did that’ … We clearly have moved away from that.”

TRUMP ORDERS SIGNS OUTSIDE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM AMID ROW OVER ITS DEPICTION OF AMERICAN HISTORY

Instead, Hartig highlighted what she called the museum’s “bold new vision” to become the “most accessible, inclusive, relevant, and sustainable public history institution in the country.” This, the vision states, will allow the museum to “serve an audience that reflects the full racial, class, gender, ethnic, and geographic demographics of the United States.”

To this end, Hartig said the museum “joined a very collaborative Smithsonian-wide collecting effort around Black Lives Matter … to document and preserve and share objects focused on Black Lives Matter to show the history of the movement starting in 2012.”

She shared a picture of protest signs outside the White House from the summer of 2020 and spoke highly of “these phenomenal, ephemeral statements, signs … expressing that kind of very heartfelt and incredibly poignant [message].”

Hartig also praised an anti-ICE organization called “Tsuru for Solidarity” as a “truly remarkable group,” highlighting its collaboration with the Black Lives Matter movement.

According to its website, Tsuru for Solidarity is a “nonviolent, direct action project of Japanese American social justice advocates and allies working to end detention sites and support directly impacted immigrant and refugee communities that are being targeted by racist, inhumane immigration policies.” Its website also states, “We stand on the moral authority of Japanese Americans who suffered the atrocities and legacy of U.S. concentration camps during WWII and we say, ‘Stop Repeating History!’”

FORMER DEMOCRATIC STAFFERS, DEI LEADERS SHAPE SMITHSONIAN LEADERSHIP AMID POLITICAL FIRESTORM

Besides the Black Lives Matter initiative, Hartig said the museum is pursuing a “proactive multilingual strategy to support language justice.”

She explained that “the idea, of course, [is] that everyone has the right to communicate in the language in which they feel most comfortable to be understood and to understand.”

To this end, she said that since the fall of 2019, “all exhibitions and signage and digital projects will be at least bilingual in English and Spanish and a number of them in more languages depending on the project and communities of origin.”

Hartig asserted, “We’re under attack for speaking complicated truths” and urged students to “raise your voices and speak them together.”

She said, “It continues to grow resolute in my mind, [history] is the key that unlocks the mysteries of humanity, of meaning, of place, of conquest, of love, power, authority and self.”

SIGN UP TO GET THE POLITICS NEWSLETTER

“We are tellers of stories and seekers of truths, hopefully embracers of nuance, ambassadors of empathy and defenders of inalienable rights,” she said.

Fox News Digital reached out to the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian Institution, Black Lives Matter and Tsuru for Solidarity for comment.

Soldiers received “sub-optimal” meal service while taking part in a major exercise last month at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, an Army colonel acknowledged in a recent…

Soldiers received “sub-optimal” meal service while taking part in a major exercise last month at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, an Army colonel acknowledged in a recent letter to a member of Congress.

The July 27 letter from Col. Nicholas Sinclair, which has been shared on social media, came in response to an inquiry from Rep. Jeff Crank of Colorado, who had been contacted by an Army specialist about the meal issues at the National Training Center. A spokesperson at Fort Carson, Colorado, where the 4th Infantry Division is based, confirmed to Task & Purpose that the letter was authentic.

Sinclair wrote that the concerns the specialist had raised about the quality of the food available to soldiers were “valid,” explaining that all meals provided to soldiers in the field during the exercise were provided by a local vendor.

“However, due to high employee turnover and staffing shortages, the meal service was sub-optimal for 4th Infantry Division Soldiers,” Sinclair wrote.

At the time the letter was written, Sinclair was commander of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. The unit has since become a Stryker brigade.

Army officials talked to the vendor, which received a “Corrective Action Request” on June 30 and then took steps to correct the issues, Sinclair wrote.

The specialist who contacted Crank said they knew that Army leaders are required to answer an inquiry from a member of Congress, which would force them to look into the food situation. The soldier also told Task & Purpose that since he exited the simulated combat zones at the center known as “the box” at the end of July, the food is “a good 65% better”

Nearly 10,000 troops took part in the recent exercise at the National Training Center. Photos posted to social media and shared to both the unofficial Army subreddit and the Hots & Cots app show small portions, bad toppings, such as expired salsa, and appear to show shortages of food. The food was provided to the soldiers before they went “in the box,” where troops lived as if in the field. The actual exercise ran 10 days, from July 20 to 29, but soldiers with the 4th Infantry Division arrived in advance, with some arriving in late June.

The food at the chow hall was available for breakfast and dinner, with participating troops having to go to private vendors or eat Meals Ready to Eat, or MREs, for lunch or meals. But soldiers reported long lines for the chow hall and poor food offerings.

“Some of it was inedible,” a junior officer with 4th Infantry Division told Task & Purpose. “Some sausages that you couldn’t tell were that bad on purpose or not. Protein ran out more than once. Some of the empty trays are because dudes didn’t take everything that was available, but those optional items at the end of the chow line looked pretty bad more than once.”

Rob Evans, an Army veteran and founder of the Yelp-like Hots & Cots app, said that he heard from soldiers, both officers and enlisted, in mid-July who reached out about “subpar, not great” food options.

Atlanta Braves reliever Connor Thomas had about as bad a day at the office as possible on Monday night against the New York Mets. In fact, it was so bad…

Atlanta Braves reliever Connor Thomas had about as bad a day at the office as possible on Monday night against the New York Mets. In fact, it was so bad that MLB legend Keith Hernandez could barely watch what was taking place at Citi Field.

Hernandez, who has been a commentator on Mets broadcasts for nearly 30 years, was in a unique spot in the booth on Monday.

Witnessing the mightily struggling team pound Atlanta 14-3 had to have been a nice change of pace for Hernandez given the team’s many inconsistencies this season, but he didn’t exactly love how the team eventually got to its dominating victory.

“I’m sorry, I just think that’s criminal what we just witnessed,” Hernandez said during the bottom of the eighth inning.

TRUMP CAN’T HELP BUT TAKE JAB AT METS IN SPEECH WHILE PRAISING BRAVES CEO: ‘THEY LOSE ALL THE TIME’

“Poor kid, you just want to give him a hug,” Hernandez continued while the broadcast panned to Thomas in the Braves dugout. “Literally, I’m sick to my stomach. I’m not a happy camper.”

“Criminal” may be too harsh a word to describe Thomas’ outing against New York, but Hernandez feeling bad for the relief pitcher is certainly understandable.

Thomas entered the contest with things knotted up at 3-3 before giving up 10 hits, 11 earned runs, three home runs, and walking five batters in just 2.2 innings of work.

It was very much a situation that we see quite often in today’s game where relievers have to stay in contests far longer than they should to preserve other arms in the bullpen.

Thomas, who retired just eight of the 23 batters he faced, was eventually replaced by a position player on the bump.

Monday night’s rough go marked Thomas’ second appearance on the mound for Atlanta this season. The 28-year-old came on in relief against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 7 and allowed four runs, including one long ball, in 3.2 innings of action.

FIRST ON FOX: “Frasier” star Kelsey Grammer spoke on “The Katie Miller Podcast” about how modern Hollywood keeps getting in its own way.

Podcaster Katie Miller, the wife of White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller, observed, “Hollywood seems determined to reinvent nearly every classic, like ‘The Odyssey,’ and distort it just a little bit to fit their views. Have you watched ‘The Odyssey’?”

“I haven’t seen ‘The Odyssey,’ so I’m not really too aware of that,” Grammer admitted, but added that there are times when certain entertainment “hits me over the head” to the point where, “it’s a little exhausting.”

He noted that the past was less multicultural than Hollywood would like to portray it, saying, “I think old England is probably full of White people” and that “I think historical significance should be respected a little bit, culturally.”

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN CONFIRMS BIZARRE ‘THE ODYSSEY’ CASTING CHOICES INCLUDING RAPPER TRAVIS SCOTT

“Do you think Hollywood will ever get back there?” Miller asked.

“Yeah. Hollywood isn’t very good at telling people what they have to see, you know, because then they flop,’ Grammer replied.

“But they’ve had, like, successive years of just flops,” Miller replied.

One prominent example of a controversial adaptation that flopped was “Snow White,” which reportedly netted Disney an approximately $170 million loss. Pixar — under parent company Disney — has tried to pivot away from a series of flops by cutting LGBTQ themes and warning not to make films inspired by the creators’ own life stories.

Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter told The Wall Street Journal that he chose this pivot because “We’re making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy.”

“Yeah. They’re probably figuring it out. I think eventually flopping doesn’t work so well,” Grammer said. “We’re not shooting a lot of movies these days. But I mean, I’m glad they made ‘The Odyssey.’ I mean, I don’t know if they’ve, you know, pitched it too far in to our particular culture to divorce you from the idea of what actually happened.”

FROM ‘SCREAM’ TO STREAM: JAMIE KENNEDY REVEALS HOW HOLLYWOOD LOST ITS WAY AND WHY HE WON’T GIVE UP ON LA

In recent years, there have been numerous movies in the culture-war spotlight, ranging from remakes like “The Little Mermaid” and “Snow White” to adaptations of ancient history like “Cleopatra” and “The Odyssey.”

Emily Wilson, who famously wrote what some call a feminist translation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” that helped influence the film, panned director Christopher Nolan’s adaptation for missing the spirit of the original heroic epic. The film has also been criticized for using modernized Americanized dialogue, reshaping the character of Odysseus as a more traumatized rather than heroic figure, and for removing many of the mythological aspects.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

In contrast to other controversial adaptations of beloved works, Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey” has managed to become a box office hit, though audiences and critics remain divided over whether its bold creative choices improved the story or missed the mark.

Grammer’s full interview with Miller will be published Tuesday night on the show’s YouTube page.
