Shockingly (not really), the longtime Golf Channel analyst absolutely buried DeChambeau in the wake of Friday’s controversial penalty at The Open.

For those who missed it, DeChambeau was assessed a two-stroke penalty hours after the fact when officials deemed he improved his position on the fifth hole by trampling down thick fescue behind his ball.

Nothing was said at the moment, of course.

Because nothing can ever be normal in golf, this penalty was only assessed after officials saw a fan video making the rounds on social media. They looked into it as Bryson was finishing his round — he originally shot a 66 and was in second — and then took DeChambeau BACK to the fifth hole after the round to investigate the crime scene.

Again, nothing can ever be normal in golf. What a wild sport.

Anyway, DeChambeau clearly didn’t agree with the decision, and appeared to tell an official he wouldn’t play tomorrow (today) during the heated conversation.

OK, we all caught up now? Good! Now, let’s see what Bryson’s best friend, Brandel Chamblee, had to say about the whole thing:

“There were multiple infractions here,” Chamblee said during an incredible diatribe that was more dramatic than a daytime soap opera. “He just danced all over the path behind the golf ball … He did everything but take a weed wacker to the tall grass.

“It is really hard to stomach the silliness that we’ve seen here from Bryson. You accept this like a man. You look at the evidence and you’re like, ‘You’re right. I did break the rule.'”

Lordy. Brandel Chamblee just despises Bryson DeChambeau, and it’s so painfully obvious. Do we think he’d go that hard on Rory McIlroy? Come on. We all know the answer.

Of course not! Rory has these guys wrapped around his finger. They all bend the knee to him. They love him. They treat him with kid gloves.

But when it comes to Bryson? Those gloves come off, and they come off in a hurry.

Brandel Chamblee has feuded with DeChambeau for years now, and it all came to a head with Bryson joined LIV a few seasons ago. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Remember this famous tweet from Brandel?

“He signed up for this when he signed on to be a puppet for a murderous dictator and to play a tour that does not value the best conditioned courses, but those that will hold events for a murderous dictator.”

THAT was in response to a post about Bryson complaining about the bunkers during some LIV event. Brandel was just waiting to unleash that little post, and boy, he did it.

Look, you can argue about the penalty all day long. Folks have, and folks will continue to do so during today’s third round. Bryson DeChambeau still has a real shot to win this thing, and the controversial two-stroke penalty will be the topic for the rest of the weekend. I get it.

But let’s not be silly, Brandel. He did not “do everything but take a weed-wacker” to the spot behind his ball. Come on. You know that’s not true. He did not “dance” behind his ball.

“I think there’s an aspect to [his team] that’s trying to curate his image all the time,” Chamblee continued late last night, adding that Bryson was “childish” and “immature” while he was smashing golf balls at the range at 10 p.m. local time.

“I agree, I think he’s going to play, but let’s just say he may not — there’s a 1 or 2 percent chance he does not — I think this is purely performative to get the world to talk about him all night.”

Performative? Perhaps. I’ll give Brandel that one. Bryson has YouTube content to make, you know? The business never stops!

But let’s be honest …

They were both being performative.
