Marsh was asked how Kamilla Cardoso, a 6-foot-7 center, managed to play 28 minutes, take 15 shots and battle inside throughout the game without attempting a single free throw.

“That was a joke. It’s a f—— joke. It’s a joke,” Marsh said. “How many more games does she need to go without getting a free throw? It makes no sense. Zero sense.”

Cardoso finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in Chicago’s 106-101 loss. She made eight of her 15 field-goal attempts, but never went to the line. The Mercury attempted 40 free throws compared to 25 for the Sky.

Marsh made clear that he wasn’t blaming the officials for the loss or suggesting Phoenix received 40 undeserved attempts. In fact, he admitted Chicago had been too undisciplined defensively.

“We fouled our asses off today. We could have been more disciplined,” Marsh said. “Not saying the officials made 40 wrong calls or 20 wrong calls, whatever it is. Not saying that at all.”

His complaint centered on Cardoso, who averages nearly 10 field-goal attempts per game but fewer than four free-throw attempts despite operating primarily around the basket. Marsh has raised the issue repeatedly and said last week that “the film doesn’t lie” about the amount of contact Cardoso absorbs.

Perhaps Marsh is exaggerating when he argues Cardoso should get close to 11 free throws every night. Coaches advocate for their players. That’s part of the job.

But zero?

That’s difficult to explain, particularly in a league that has spent much of the season trying to explain its officiating.

Marsh’s outburst might be dismissed as one frustrated coach defending one of his players if it happened in a vacuum. But it didn’t.

In June, Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas drove her fist into Caitlin Clark’s throat during a scramble for a loose ball. The officials didn’t call a foul.

The WNBA reviewed the play the following day, determined Thomas had committed a “non-basketball act,” assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 and suspended her for one game.

In other words, the league decided the play was serious enough to warrant an ejection-level penalty and a suspension, but three officials watching it happen in real time didn’t see anything.

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White called the no-call “absolutely egregious and utterly disrespectful.”

The WNBA’s decision to punish Thomas after the fact validated White’s criticism. It also raised an obvious question: How does a player get struck in the throat in front of multiple officials without one of them blowing a whistle?

Then, on Sunday, Sophie Cunningham took an elbow to the face from Minnesota Lynx forward Nia Coffey.

Referees called a foul against Cunningham.

Officials reviewed the play but didn’t change the initial call, leaving the foul assessed to Cunningham despite her being the player who took an elbow to the mouth.

Clark is the biggest draw in the league and Cunningham has become one of its most recognizable and polarizing players. Yet, WNBA officials missed a fist to Clark’s throat and managed to penalize Cunningham for getting hit in the face.

Now Marsh is publicly asking how Cardoso, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, can spend an entire game operating around the basket without earning one free throw.

The league knows officiating has become a problem and major errors involving some of the league’s biggest stars are drawing more attention to the issue.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert devoted a significant portion of her All-Star media availability to the issue, acknowledging that the league “always” needs to improve its officiating.

She said the league reviews every call, non-call and significant non-call, and announced that the WNBA plans to launch a fully centralized replay center in 2027.

Engelbert said the investment, which will cost tens of millions of dollars, is intended to create more consistency, efficiency and transparency.

That sounds good. It also doesn’t do much for players getting hit in the throat or face in 2026.

The WNBA hasn’t committed to implementing the NBA’s Last Two Minute reports, which publicly identify correct and incorrect calls in the closing minutes of close games. So, while the league promises more transparency through a replay center next season, it still isn’t prepared to offer the type of public officiating accountability its NBA counterpart already provides.

Replay has its limits, too. Officials reviewed the Cunningham play and still left the foul on the player who got elbowed. The Clark play never even reached an in-game review.

A centralized replay center won’t fix much if officials fail to review obvious contact in the first place, or review it and still get the call wrong.

Marsh wasn’t arguing that officiating cost Chicago the game Monday. White’s complaints didn’t change the result of Indiana’s loss to Phoenix, either. But that’s not the point.

The issue is that coaches, players and fans continue to watch obvious contact treated completely differently from one game to the next.

Heck, sometimes it seems like the rules change from one possession to the next.

A replay center might help in 2027.

For now, the WNBA has a player punched in the throat with no foul, another called for a foul after taking an elbow to the face and a 6-foot-7 center who couldn’t get to the line once while taking nearly all her shots in the paint.

Marsh called it a “f—— joke.”

At this point, he’s hardly alone.

“You were part of the problem. There was absolute press malpractice. Your job — your job — is a fierce skepticism toward authority, and you weren’t doing that,” Kennedy said on “State of the Union.”

“You were beating up on people who were dissenting,” the HHS secretary added.

Kennedy leveled the attack after Bash asked how HHS would prepare for another pandemic and tried to move him away from re-litigating the prior federal response.

Bash pushed back, saying she was trying to ask how Kennedy would prevent another public health crisis.

“I also don’t want to use this interview to allow you to say things that aren’t entirely true,” Bash said. “You’re talking about therapeutics. Fine. It is also factually true that the COVID vaccine worked. The COVID vaccine prevented deaths. There is data, upon data, upon data.”

CDC and Harvard researchers estimated in 2023 that primary vaccination could have prevented at least 232,000 deaths among unvaccinated U.S. adults.

After Bash acknowledged the frightening nature of the pandemic and said officials made mistakes, Kennedy accused CNN of contributing to public fear.

“You were scaring people,” Kennedy said.

Bash asked why he believed CNN had frightened viewers, prompting Kennedy to point to its pandemic chyrons.

“Because that was the job of CNN,” Kennedy said.

Bash said the network had been covering government officials, including Trump’s daily White House briefings.

“We were listening to the leaders in this country, including the president, who had a daily press conference explaining what was going on,” Bash said.

Kennedy later accused Bash of punishing people who distrusted Fauci, claiming he lied about masks, social distancing, natural immunity, vaccine transmission and COVID-19’s origins.

“We know that Anthony Fauci, who was the expert, was lying about everything,” Kennedy said. “He was lying. And you were punishing people for not trusting the experts.”

The interview aired four days after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times on his attorney’s advice during a Senate hearing into the pandemic response and COVID-19’s origins, Fox News Digital reported. 

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has said his committee will vote on a contempt resolution.

Bash’s questioning also came as the United States recorded its highest measles total in 35 years. The CDC reported 2,371 confirmed cases through July 30, surpassing 2,289 for all of 2025. Kindergarten MMR coverage fell from 95.2% during the 2019-2020 school year to 92.5% during 2024-2025.

When Bash asked Kennedy to tell parents directly to get their children vaccinated, he endorsed the MMR vaccine.

“Parents should get their children vaccinated for measles,” Kennedy said. “Measles vaccine is effective. It stops measles in about 97% of the cases. People should get vaccinated.”

Bash previously said in April reporters should identify false or misleading claims instead of merely presenting competing positions.

It also leaves just one major tournament remaining for him to salvage some pride and put in a performance worthy of his talent. Except some of golf’s most prominent commentators are the exact opposite of confident that he’ll be able to do so.

That criticism, though? Pales in comparison to what analyst Brandel Chamblee had to say about DeChambeau’s recent performances.

“Probably one of the biggest surprises of the year is Bryson DeChambeau,” Chamblee said this week. “It’s almost like he went from chasing Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy to chasing Grant Horvat. It’s like he wants to outdo every YouTuber in the game of golf instead of outplay everybody in the game of golf.”

Ouch.

Grant Horvat, for those unfamiliar, is one of the most prominent names in YouTube Golf and has made several videos with DeChambeau on both their channels. He’s a very, very good golfer, and also far, far behind players like Scheffler or McIlroy.

So is this criticism fair? Well, yes and no.

DeChambeau opened himself up to this type of critique by going to LIV. Because he plays most of his competitive golf on a different tour that has less exposure and doesn’t feature the same players, the only opportunity most commentators have to measure his level of play relative to Scheffler and McIlroy comes in majors. When you don’t play well in those opportunities, there will be talk that you’ve lost a step.

He also, famously, does things his own way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and most traditional golf purists would prefer that everyone do things the way they’ve always been done. Or at least, always been done in the modern era. DeChambeau, though, has 3D-printed single-length irons, uses shafts from upstart companies and has a unique chipping and putting technique that can be off-putting.

On the other hand, he established himself as one of the best 3-4 players in the world in 2024, all while making YouTube videos. Three top-10’s, including a T2, in majors in one season is hardly a disappointment. He was making YouTube videos then too.

Has DeChambeau been at his best in 2026? Of course not. Has he had the best links strategy? No, definitely not. Does he spend much of his free time making YouTube golf videos? Also yes. Still, he finished T10 at Royal Portrush, ahead of English players more traditionally associated with links strategy like Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose. He’s also dealt with several injuries this season, which might be impacting his ability to compete at an elite level.

Still, golf is performance based. And DeChambeau can silence all the critics by playing well this weekend. And then going to make a YouTube video with Grant Horvat.

In her view, Biden’s upcoming memoir, titled “Promise Me, America,” will only serve to reopen painful wounds that Democrats have struggled to move past since the 2024 election loss. In a way, she believes the book is a bit of a microcosm of Biden’s presidency itself.

“They’re thinking ‘why can’t you just shut the f— up? Prior to me leaving the party, they wanted nothing to do with this guy. It was so bad that when, finally, Biden exited on July 21, there was no goodbye party other than a staffer one in the Rose Garden. There was nothing,” Li said.

“Jill has him writing books that no one wants to read instead of fully enjoying his retirement,” Li said, referring to Jill Biden, the former first lady.

“Just like she had him out running for president — a presidency that no one wanted, not even Democrats — instead of enjoying his retirement. He should have been in retirement 10, 20 years ago, but they need the money,” Li said.

Biden described his upcoming book in a post to X on Wednesday morning.

“It’s about the challenges we face as a nation. About the decisions I made and why I made them,” Biden said, igniting mockery on social media. “It’s about why I chose to run for reelection and why I chose to step aside.”

In light of what she knows, Li doubts there is a way for Biden to spin his exit that won’t do further harm to his own image — an image his campaign went to great lengths to protect.

In one event, Li recalled how the Biden campaign confiscated her phone in a 2023 event.

“The [Democratic National Committee] was routinely confiscating the phones of top donors with social media followings,” Li said, referring to a party fundraising and campaign group.

“They took away my phone because they knew I was a prolific tweeter. And I posted something on Instagram that night and a finance director from the DNC called me at around 10 or 11 that same night to instruct me to delete everything from Instagram about Biden that I posted that day.

“The reason is because [Biden] seemed infirm. He seemed weak,” Li said.

Now on this side of his presidency, Li believes he will further aggravate Democrats who have wanted to move past the 2024 election and reignite questions of why Biden wasn’t asked to step aside sooner.

“It’s very clear they were trying to hide the fact that instead of having a candidate they could be proud of, they were busy hiding a candidate that they were deeply ashamed of,” she added.

The fund drew an enormous amount of scrutiny from Democrats, calling it a “slush fund” to personally benefit Trump and his allies. The fund was later dropped after political backlash, with DOJ Acting Attorney General moving to walk back that portion of the proposed settlement.

The lawsuit puts the controversial anti-weaponization fund back under the microscope as confirmation hearings begin Wednesday for Blanche’s nomination as attorney general.

“The Court is extremely troubled by the testimony given by Acting Attorney General Blanche on May 19, 2026. In response to why the ‘settlement agreement’ had not been submitted to this Court for review, he stated that ‘there is no judge’ because the case had been dismissed and, therefore, there was “no mechanism” for reviewing the agreement,” wrote Williams.

“While temporally accurate, this answer is, at best, misleading and, at worst, disingenuous,” she added.
