SAN ANTONIO – An 18-year-old woman was struck and killed after getting out of her disabled car on a North Side highway early Saturday morning. The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 281 near Isom Road. Police said the woman's car had broken down and was stopped partially in a traffic lane and on the shoulder of the highway. A passerby stopped to help her push the car out of the main lanes. Police said the woman had just stepped out of the driver's side of her car when she was struck by another vehicle. She died at the scene. Her identity has not been released.
The driver who struck her stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said the driver was not intoxicated, and no criminal charges are expected at this time. The crash shut down northbound U.S. 281 for several hours while investigators worked at the scene. The highway reopened just before 7 a.m. after investigators finished their work and crews cleared the roadway. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
