WNBA Finals' Game 6 scheduling debacle is an embarrassing end to a historic season

What could be the deciding game of the best-of-seven series will now be played as a midweek matinee Because time machines are not, in fact, real, there was no perfect solution to the WNBA's Game 6 problem. The Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries, tied 2-2 ahead of Game 5 on Monday night at the Chase Center, needed either a schedule change or a location change. And yet, faced with a number of sub-par options, the league delayed the decision until the last possible second, announcing the Game 6 venue just hours before the tipoff of Game 5, and then made the worst choice of the bunch. Game 6 will be played in State Farm Arena at 12:30 p.m.

ET on Thursday, Oct. 29. Yes, that's right. A game during which the champion of the landmark 30th WNBA season could be crowned will take place during lunch on a workday — and that's for East Coast fans. Valkyries fans, who have shown their second-year expansion team unprecedented levels of support and devotion, will be watching over breakfast, if their jobs and lives and adult responsibilities will permit them to watch at all. To add insult to injury, the game has to be early because there will be a regular-season Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game in State Farm that evening
