Wrong-way driver killed in I-95 crash that injured 3 others in Jacksonville  Action News Jax

The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. Friday on southbound I-95 near Park Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said a van driven by a 75-year-old Jacksonville man was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it sideswiped an SUV driven by a 26-year-old Jacksonville woman who was heading south. The SUV driver came to a controlled stop after the sideswipe, but the van continued northbound against traffic. The van subsequently struck a sedan traveling southbound behind the SUV, driven by a 27-year-old Tampa woman, FHP said.

The van and sedan came to rest in the middle lane. The van driver was transported to UF Health Jacksonville, where he was pronounced dead. The sedan driver was seriously injured, while her 49-year-old Jacksonville male passenger was critically injured; both were taken to UF Health. The SUV driver suffered mild injuries. All three drivers and the sedan passenger were wearing seatbelts, troopers said. The crash involved three vehicles: a van, an SUV and a sedan. FHP’s Troop G is investigating.
