MONTROSE- The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded $65.9 million in grants to 24 community organizations across New York to help Veterans who are hom MONTROSE- The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded $65.9 million in grants to 24 community organizations across New York to help Veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes. The funding, for fiscal year 2027, is part of a record $1.17 billion in VA grants awarded to 680 organizations nationwide to address Veteran homelessness. The grants will provide housing assistance and supportive services through two VA programs. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families program will help prevent homelessness, locate suitable housing and quickly rehouse Veterans and their families.

The Grant and Per Diem program will support transitional housing and other services, including housing designed to meet the needs of women Veterans, elderly or frail Veterans and those with chronic mental illness. Some funding will also help Veterans remain in their current housing while receiving services aimed at achieving long-term housing stability. The VA said it housed 51,936 homeless Veterans nationwide during fiscal year 2025, the highest number in seven years. “VA medical centers across New York remain committed to ensuring Veterans have access to safe, stable housing and the supportive services they need to thrive,” said Dawn M.
