Georgia State to open new Research Tower in downtown Atlanta  WSB-TV

Georgia State University will hold a ribbon-cutting for its new Research Tower in Atlanta with Gov. Brian Kemp and President M. Brian Blake. ATLANTA – Georgia State University will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for its new nine-story Research Tower on its Atlanta campus. State and university officials, including Gov. Brian Kemp and Georgia State President M. Brian Blake, plan to attend Tuesday morning’s event. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Georgia State said the 155,000-square-foot building adds research, teaching and collaboration space in Downtown Atlanta.

The university said the tower sits next to the Petit Science Center and Research Science Center at the corner of Decatur Street and Piedmont Avenue. Georgia State said it has invested more than $2 billion in research during the past decade and that annual spending has nearly tripled since 2010. The university said the tower opened in time for the start of the fall semester. Georgia State Vice President for Research and Economic Development Donald Hamelberg and other state and university officials are also expected at the ceremony.
