Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are searching for the mother of an infant who was found abandoned behind a shopping center on the city's southeast side Monday night. INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are searching for the mother of an infant found abandoned Monday night behind a shopping center on the city’s southeast side. Officers responded to a call regarding the child’s safety in the 5400 block of East Thompson Road, near Emerson Avenue, just before 7 p.m. Monday. Investigators believe someone intentionally left the baby behind the building. Although the infant appeared uninjured, emergency responders took the child to a local hospital for evaluation. “From financial support, from housing to safety and protection, let us try to help you get that.

If it’s a protection order, let us help you try to get that,” IMPD officer Tommy Thompson said. The discovery marks the second time police have found an abandoned infant in Indianapolis in a month. In July, police discovered another baby in a wooded area on the city’s east side. Thompson emphasized that help is available 24/7 for families in crisis. Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows parents to leave a newborn at any hospital, fire station, or police station anonymously without fear of prosecution, provided the child is unharmed. Safe Haven baby boxes are also available at designated emergency
