Pentagon seeking pitches for $96M cyber operations center at Lackland San Antonio Express-News
For the second time in as many months, the Pentagon is using a pitch competition to start development of a multimillion dollar cyber center on Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The Army Corps of Engineers put out a call for proposals to design and build a $96 million operations center for an Air Force cyber warfare unit nicknamed the “Demon Chasers.” The new 42,000-square-foot facility for the 91st Cyberspace Operations Squadron would have secure, classified workspace for about 270 people and supporting infrastructure including backup generators, according to planning documents. Pentagon expands Lackland cyber campus plans The project is part of a larger effort to get new facilities for the 16th Air Force, the service’s main cyber hub known as AFCYBER, and its subordinate units like the 91st, which have been dealing with aging buildings and failing infrastructure at their current sites on Lackland’s Security Hill. In July, the Pentagon began a separate and much larger project to build a $986 million, 600,000-square-foot facility for the 16th Air Force’s headquarters.
