CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer has been charged with illegally accessing a government computer after allegedly using the Flock camera system to look up a Watauga County Sheriff CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer has been charged with illegally accessing a government computer after allegedly using the Flock camera system to look up a Watauga County Sheriff's Office undercover license plate and providing it to the target of a drug investigation. According to CMPD, the State Bureau of Investigation informed the department on June 18, 2026, that during an unrelated investigation it had developed information indicating that on Tuesday, June 16, Officer Seth Elliott, 25, had improperly accessed the Flock system and CJLEADS once for non-law enforcement purposes.

On Monday, June 22, Elliott was placed on paid administrative assignment, and his equipment and access to systems containing criminal intelligence information were revoked pending the outcome of the SBI investigation. Court documents show Elliott was allegedly contacted on June 16 by the target of the Watauga County Sheriff's Office drug operation, who asked him to query a North Carolina license plate. The plate was affixed to an undercover officer's vehicle. On July 29, the SBI arrested Elliott on a charge of illegally accessing a government computer, a Class 1 misdemeanor. He was placed on unpaid administrative leave the same day,
