National Security Leaders for America endorses Phil Ehr in CD 28  Florida Politics

A network of retired generals, admirals and diplomats is backing veteran Phil Ehr’s effort to supplant a Republican Congressman in Florida’s southernmost district. National Security Leaders for America, a nonpartisan coalition of more than 1,500 former senior military, diplomatic, intelligence and civilian defense officials, has endorsed Ehr, a retired Navy Commander, in a rematch with U.S. Rep. Carlos Giménez in Florida’s 28th Congressional District. Retired Army Colonel David McDonald delivered the nod during the grand opening of Ehr’s campaign headquarters in Homestead. The group, known as NSL4A, counts alumni from both Republican and Democratic administrations.

Among its public faces are retired General Paul Selva, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, and retired Admiral Steve Abbot, Deputy Homeland Security Adviser under President George W. Bush. Ehr served as a reconnaissance operations officer under Abbot when the latter led the U.S. Sixth Fleet. NSL4A’s criteria for opposing candidates include denying legitimate election results. Hours after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, Giménez voted to sustain objections to Arizona’s and Pennsylvania’s electoral votes, both of which the House rejected by wide margins. He said he voted that way due to pandemic-era changes to
