President Trump has made tightening up election rules a top priority of his second term, especially when it comes to mail-in balloting. Unfortunately, he’s run into a number of roadblocks, thanks to lawfare. As a recent Fox News article pointed out, President Trump's most recent efforts to regulate how the USPS handles ballots have been blocked by the United States Supreme Court and won’t be in effect for the 2026 election, but that doesn’t mean they’re gone for good. We might see them implemented in time for the 2028 presidential election. As attorney Dunham Biles explained, this is thanks to the fact that the Supreme Court ruling blocking the rules was made mostly on procedural grounds.

“These cases will continue on, and eventually be decided on the merits, and thus, the rule might be applied in future elections,” he said. Biles went on to say that he believes that as far as the merits are concerned, President Trump actually has the advantage. He said: “This appears to be regulation that is in fact dealing with the mail, not an attempt to regulate elections.
