With brutally hot weather expected to continue for over a week in Solano County and the Bay Area, local experts shared tips on how to keep your home cool. Vacaville daytime temperatures are predicted in the 90s and Vallejo temperatures in the high 80s. Across the Bay Area, the readings will soar 10 to 20 degrees above average, with inland areas suffering the worst, the National Weather Service said. Turning on the air conditioning early, closing the blinds, giving the stove a vacation and checking the filter are four ways to help keep the temperature down in the house, according to a Vallejo heating and air conditioning specialist. “The most important thing is to turn on your AC early, before you leave the house,” said Nick Hiteshew of A-1 Guaranteed Heating & Air.
Hiteshew grew up in the Vallejo business, which his parents Krissy and Richard Hiteshew started in 1996. “Turn it on before 10 a.m.,” Hiteshew said. “If you wait until 5 p.m. to turn on your AC, it’s never going to catch up. “If you wait until the end of the day, you’re not cooling down the air, you’re cooling down everything in the house” such as the couch or overstuffed chairs, which had all day to absorb the warm air, he said.
