Isaias to bring rain to North Carolina this weekend Spectrum News
The greatest rain chance is expected from late Saturday through Sunday. Tropical Storm Isaias has formed in the Gulf. It will likely become the first hurricane in the Atlantic basin this season as it tracks toward the central Gulf Coast. The National Hurricane Center forecast currently shows a likely landfall along the central Gulf Coast around Friday night or early Saturday morning. The storm should then weaken as it moves inland through the weekend. Even though that track would keep the storm's center well west of the Carolinas, deep tropical moisture will likely get pulled into the region far to the east of the storm. That should bring rain to North Carolina starting in some areas Saturday afternoon.
The highest chance of rain for much of the state should then come from Saturday night through Sunday. Current projections from forecast models suggest the heaviest rain in North Carolina may fall around the mountains and near the coast, with lower amounts in between in central North Carolina. Preliminary forecast data shows up to around an inch of rain for central North Carolina. Areas in western North Carolina and near the coast could see around two to three inches, with locally higher amounts.
