INGOLSTADT (dpa-AFX) – Volkswagen subsidiary Audi plans to lend employees to the defense industry. The voluntary project will allow employees to work temporarily for other companies in Bavaria, the automaker said. Initially, the companies involved will be Diehl, Airbus, MBDA and KNDS, which operate either wholly or partly in the defense sector. "Automobilwoche" and Bayerischer Rundfunk, among others, had previously reported on the plans. According to Audi, the initiative involves a temporary regional deployment of personnel under an employee-leasing arrangement. The employees will remain employed by Audi. The goal of the initiative, according to a company spokeswoman, is to "expand employment prospects for employees, provide targeted support for the region's need for skilled workers and actively help shape the transformation of industry."Strong interest Initially, the offer is aimed at indirect employees covered by collective bargaining agreements in Ingolstadt.

"The target group particularly includes engineers, quality engineers, project managers and employees in the workshops involved in technical development and quality assurance," Audi said.
