Amber Guyger paroled 8 years after the murder of Botham Jean  NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger has been paroled after 8 years in prison, according to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. Eight years after Dallas police officer Amber Guyger shot and killed Botham Jean inside his apartment, Guyger has been granted parole. Guyger said she mistook Jean’s apartment for her own. Those close to Jean’s family say they fought the decision to grant her parole. NBC 5’s Allie Spillyards reports. Amber Guyger, the former Dallas police officer convicted in the 2018 shooting death of 26-year-old Botham Jean, has been granted early parole, according to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. In October 2019, Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the September 2018 murder.

Attempts to appeal and overturn her conviction were denied, and her first shot at parole, in 2024, was also rejected.
