Baby Girl Born Along San Francisco Road After Family Gets Stuck In Traffic  Patch

Paramedics ran two blocks through heavy traffic to reach the family in time to help deliver the baby girl. SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A healthy baby girl was born on the side of the road in San Francisco after her family became stuck in heavy traffic while heading to the hospital, fire officials said. The San Francisco Fire Department responded around 4:40 p.m. Saturday to the area of Crossover and Martin Luther King Jr. drives, where the family had pulled over and called 911 because traffic prevented them from reaching the hospital.

An American Medical Response crew was the first emergency unit to arrive but had to park about two blocks away because of the congestion and run to the family, according to the fire department. The crew arrived in time to assist with the delivery. San Francisco Fire Department Engine 14 arrived shortly afterward and helped care for the mother and newborn. Both were taken to a local hospital in good condition, officials said.
