Fort Lupton gets $24 million from USDA for wastewater project  Denver Gazette

The USDA has approved a $24 million loan to Fort Lupton to expand its wastewater system, improve South Platte River water quality and keep costs affordable for residents and businesses. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is issuing Fort Lupton a $24 million loan for a wastewater infrastructure project that will connect the city’s system to an existing regional treatment plant. “This project demonstrates what can be accomplished when local communities and USDA work together to address critical infrastructure needs to strengthen long-term rural resilience,” said USDA Colorado Director Sallie Clark. “By investing in infrastructure today, we’re helping ensure that communities have the capacity and reliability they need to accommodate future businesses, housing and other development.” The project is funded through the USDA’s Water and Waste Disposal Program, which provides grants to help municipalities improve water quality, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid-waste disposal and stormwater drainage.

Rep. Gabe Evans said Northern Colorado’s rapid growth demands water infrastructure that can keep pace. “Northern Colorado is growing fast, and our water infrastructure has to keep up,” he said, praising the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program for awarding Fort Lupton a $24 million loan.
