Four hundred block parties, one epic day: Inside the movement set to wave across the Sunset this spring  The San Francisco Standard

For much of the last four years, the typically sleepy Sunset has been rocked by a political battle over the Great Highway that included a resident revolt, leading to the city’s first-ever recall of a sitting supervisor. But Josh Nesbit and Sandi Lam Harder hope that March 20, 2027, becomes part of a new narrative about a neighborhood stitching itself back together. On the spring equinox, the duo plan to stand on any block west of 19th Avenue and see a celebration that might be the largest string of parties on a single day in San Francisco history. The title of the planned event, the Sunset Wave, is an allusion to the ocean-centric lifestyle that attracts many to the neighborhood, as well as a friendly greeting across the generational, economic, and political divide.

They are focused on the east-west numbered avenues of the grid-like area but are open to parties on the named north-south blocks between Lincoln and Lake Merced. What happens at each party is a choose your own adventure for the estimated 400 hosts they imagine it will take to fill every block with something as simple as driveway doughnuts and coffee or as ambitious as live music. The date was chosen for practical reasons; it has historically been a lucky day for sun in the notoriously chilly
