The Bulldogs recognize that Mateer is still a threat despite a mediocre start to the season for the veteran quarterback and the Sooners offense. The Oklahoma offense has struggled to this point in the season, but Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs recognize they have to be ready for quarterback John Mateer. Smart and inside linebacker Justin Williams spoke highly of Mateer ahead of Georgia's showdown with the Sooners on Saturday. Mateer's dual-threat ability has the Bulldogs' attention as he tries to lead the Sooners to an upset victory on the road. "Obviously his athleticism pops out at you," Smart said of Mateer. "He's hard to tackle. He breaks a lot of tackles.

He's tough. You talk about the run game. He runs inside, he runs outside, he runs to pass, he scrambles to throw. He's made explosives with his legs." Mateer entered this season as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate given the pieces around him on both sides of the ball for the Sooners.
