Joy Reid says she's openly rooting for Team USA to lose, hopes an African team wins the World Cup

Joy Reid said she could not celebrate the Fourth of July over the weekend as a Black person in America. It sounds like she won’t be able to enjoy Team USA’s success in the World Cup, either.

On Monday, The Nation sports editor David Zirin, a goof, told Reid he is rooting for the United States to lose to Belgium so President Donald Trump cannot “exploit” the victory.

“I find myself really wishing the United States was actually playing a team from the Global South so I could truly root with even more fervor to see them get knocked down a peg, because we know how it’s going to be exploited if they go forward in the Cup,” Zirin said on Reid’s podcast.

Reid nodded in agreement.

“Exactly,” she replied.

She then clarified that she isn’t merely rooting against Team USA. She’s rooting for an African nation to win the entire World Cup.

“I’m rooting for all the African teams,” Reid said. “I’m being very open about it. I’m rooting for the African teams. I want one of them to win. I think it would be so great for the Global South for an African team to take home the big prize.”

Is that so?

One can’t help but chuckle at someone who has made millions of dollars a year bashing the country in which she lives while openly rooting against it in the world’s biggest soccer tournament. It’s certainly one way to thank the audience that made those paychecks possible.

No, seriously. That is exactly what her audience, the anti-American scum they are, wants to hear.

What’s notable about Reid is that she always seems sincere. Many race idolaters and anti-American commentators are simply playing a role, including Reid’s pal Jemele Hill.

In many ways, people like Hill are trying to become the next Joy Reid, as unfortunate as that may be.

We have little doubt Reid truly spent the Fourth of July weekend stewing over America, reminding herself how irredeemably racist she believes it is.

Likewise, she will almost certainly celebrate when Team USA is eliminated from the World Cup. Speaking for most sane Americans, though, we hope that doesn’t happen Monday against Belgium in the Round of 16.

As for Reid’s desire to see an African nation win it all, only two remain as of Monday: Morocco and Egypt.

Egypt has the longest odds to win the Cup, at +2500 at DraftKings. Team USA and Morocco are each around +2900. France is a notable favorite at +180.
