Moose attacks man on hike in Colorado  Denver Gazette

A man survived a moose attack while hiking in the mountains around Boulder. According to reporting from the South County Star, a couple had traveled to Colorado to visit their son who lives in Louisville, a town just outside Boulder and hike the mountains surrounding the area. The group had set out on a hike in preparation for a longer 10-mile hike they had planned. After reaching the summit of their hike, they started to head down when they encountered a baby moose about a half-mile into their descent. The area had a waterfall blocking other noises and a switchback with a narrow side drop.

The mother moose then appeared. Although the baby bolted, the mother charged a man in the group, who threw his trekking pole. The man fell, and the moose stepped on his back, leaving a bruise in the shape of a hoof print. Another member of the group started throwing rocks, and the moose eventually ran away. Then a woman appeared who was a PA in a trauma unit and had witnessed the entire encounter. She had a first-aid kit and tended to the injured hiker’s cuts and bruises so the group could finish their two-mile journey and go to the emergency room.
