“Retired today,” Grier wrote in a post on Instagram.

He signed a deal with the Panthers in April and reportedly received a coaching opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys, but decided to walk away from the game altogether.

Grier shared messages of support on his Instagram Stories with Dak Prescott, Jake Ferguson and Kenny Pickett paying tribute to the quarterback.

“Never retired, just switching lanes,” Prescott wrote in his post. “Congrats my brother.”

The Panthers selected Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft after he played college football for the Mountaineers and the Florida Gators. He would spend time with the Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.

He only played two games in the NFL – both with the Panthers during his rookie season.

Grier had 228 passing yards and four interceptions in his career.

The Panthers now have three quarterbacks going into camp, including Pickett, Bryce Young and Haynes King.
