A 17-year-old boy died Wednesday morning after he was found with a gunshot wound to his chest on the West Side, according to San Antonio police. SAN ANTONIO – A 17-year-old boy died Wednesday morning after he was found with a gunshot wound to his chest on the West Side, according to San Antonio police. Officers initially responded to a call for a burglary of a vehicle around 12:30 a.m. in the 5900 block of Monica Place, which is located near Culebra and Callaghan roads. Upon arrival, officers said they saw a group of people in the street. The group told SAPD that the teen was burglarizing vehicles and they left him behind because they didn’t want anything to do with that.

As officers were on the scene, police said that gunshots and a car alarm were heard towards the 1400 block of Melissa Sue. Officers relocated to the sound of the shots and found the teen lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to his upper body, SAPD said. Police said the boy was wearing a ski mask and had a 30-round Glock magazine next to him. Multiple people fled from the scene on foot, SAPD said. Officers were unable to locate or identify those who fled. The teenager was taken to a local hospital
