UCLA named No. 1 public university in country by US News & World Report  NBC Los Angeles

The University of California, Los Angeles was named the No. 1 public university in the country by U.S. News & World Report, it announced Monday. UCLA was recognized for its graduation rate, faculty resources, performance and several other factors. In addition to the top public university title, the university was also named No. 1 in public universities for veterans. In a statement, UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk said the university was honored to have been given the title, but said it’s the school’s community that truly makes its mark.

“Rankings are gratifying, but what makes UCLA exceptional is the extraordinary community behind them,” Frenk’s statement read. “Our students, faculty, staff and alumni demonstrate each day that academic excellence and public purpose strengthen one another. To stand atop the list of the nation’s public universities is an honor, and it reinforces our responsibility to continue expanding opportunity, advancing knowledge and serving society.” To read the university’s response to the report, click here.
