Voters can get free rides to the polls today Spectrum News
Many groups across the state are providing a free or discounted ride to the polls RALEIGH, N.C. — Across the state on Tuesday, multiple groups are helping voters who don’t have a way to get to the polls. Many of these groups use volunteer drivers who want to make sure everyone can perform their civic duty. Gerald Givens is one of about eight drivers partnering with the Raleigh-Wake Citizens Association. He said that during the early voting period, many messages came to the group from those eager to vote but unable to get there due to no transportation. According to him, the majority of voters they’ve driven have voted curbside because many couldn’t walk into the building.
“I remember the first time that I actually voted, and it was with my grandparents and most of the people who call us for transportation rides are our seniors inside of our community,” Givens said. “And so this is kind of like giving me and our team the opportunity to pay it forward for all of those who made it possible for us.” If voters need a free ride from the Raleigh-Wake Citizen Association on Election Day, they can call 210-382-1469. The Winston-Salem Transit Authority, CATS in Charlotte, ART (Asheville Rides Transit) and Wave Transit in New Hanover County are offering free bus
