Homeless camps swept away in Columbus-area flooding  Spectrum News

Everyone – including a dog – is now accounted for. CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio — Thursday’s flash flooding in central Ohio washed away several homeless camps along the Blacklick Creek in Canal Winchester, prompting a large emergency response. Initially, officials had believed five people and a dog were missing, calling the report a “mass casualty incident”, according to the Columbus Division of Fire. About 100 emergency personnel participated in the search near Gender Road, according to a Spectrum News 1 crew on the scene.

Two people were pulled from the water and transported to an area hospital for treatment of hypothermia. Initial reports had indicated that five people were missing because of the flooding. Those five people have been accounted for. Heavy rain has caused widespread flash flooding across the Columbus area Thursday. Several inches of rain fell across the region, sending waterways out of their banks, flooding roads and prompting multiple water rescues.
