Lewisville man returns more than $128,000 found outside Bank of America ATM NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
A man found a bag with $128,514 outside a Bank of America ATM in Lewisville. Police say he returned all of it. Police say the mystery citizen immediately tried to get the money back to its rightful owner. NBC 5’s Jala Washington has the latest on the story. A man who found $128,514 in cash sitting outside a Bank of America ATM in Lewisville helped return every dollar to its rightful owner, according to Lewisville police. The discovery happened around 10 a.m. Aug. 3 at a Bank of America ATM on West Main Street. The man who found the bag did not want to be identified or receive public attention. Based on items inside the bag, the man initially believed the money belonged to a nearby Chick-fil-A and took it there in hopes of returning it.
"Based on some of the contents of the bag, the citizen believed that it belonged to a Chick-fil-A down the road. So he took it to that Chick-fil-A in hopes of returning it to the rightful owner. It did not belong to that Chick-fil-A, so the citizen, with Chick-fil-A standing there, they went ahead and called 911 to have officers come and secure the money," Lewisville Chief of Police Brook Rollins said.
